What is Advanced Driving ?

Advanced driving can be anything from a refresher course, to dust away the cobwebs or a course which will lead to National accreditation, or anything in between.
The Advanced driving courses at Lion are designed for the driver and the Approved Driving Instructor.

Depth of skills: knowledge and experience
A good instructor will ensure that their driving skills are the best that they can be and drive how they teach.
In our experience an instructor's teaching skills are enhanced by high levels of driving skills.

The greater the depth of skill and knowledge that an instructor has in their driving will mean a  greater depth of information and experience to pass on to students.

The Advanced Driver Training courses at Lion are designed to:

  • have a greater ability to deal systematically with hazards.
  • have earlier recognition and anticipation of developing hazards.
  • greater vehicle sympathy.
  • enhanced concentration and observational skills.
  • enhanced practical teaching skills to supervise ,relate to and instruct full licence holders
  • a greater understanding of the affects of driver attitudes and driver fatigue.
They are also designed to:
  • develop the individual driving skills of our students and ADI’s to National Accreditation
  • to give advanced coaching to the ADI in order to deliver Advanced Instruction
  • to give Defensive Driving and Advanced Driving instruction through a programme of CPD

The courses coach the ADI to reach an advanced instructional standard.
They in turn can train their students to a developed recognised standard which can then be awarded by accreditation.

This accreditation is usually achieved by theory testing and/or practical driving skills, procedures, and testing by organisations that are committed to developing the driver and their driving skills.

These organisations also monitor the development of the driver by regular retesting and providing the driver with support in the form of periodicals and updates on road safety and key issues.
